Incentive-Compatibility in a Distributed Autonomous Currency System

چکیده
Peer-to-peer complementary currencies can be powerful tools for promoting exchanges and building sustainable relationships among selfish peers on the Internet. i-WAT[10] is a proposed such currency based on the WAT System, a polycentric, real-life complementary currency using WAT tickets as its media of exchange. Participants spontaneously issue and circulate the tickets as needed, whose values are backed up by chains of trust. i-WAT implements the tickets electronically by exchanging messages signed in OpenPGP[3]. This paper claims that the design of i-WAT is incentive-compatible as to protection against moral hazards, or threats caused by selfish peers because they may take advantage of the rules; such hazards are defused in i-WAT if the participants react against misbehaviors of others by pursuing their own benefits. A reference implementation of i-WAT has been developed in the form of an XMPP (Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol)[4][5] instant messaging client. We have been putting the currency system into practical use since June 2004.

Incentive Games and Mechanisms for Risk Management
Incentives play an important role in (security and IT) risk management of a large-scale organization with multiple autonomous divisions. This paper presents an incentive mechanism design framework for risk management based on a game-theoretic approach. The risk manager acts as a mechanism designer providing rules and incentive factors such as assistance or subsidies to divisions or units, which...
متن کاملA Distributed Control Architecture for Autonomous Operation of a Hybrid AC/DC Microgrid System
Hybrid AC/DC microgrids facilitate the procedure of DC power connection into the conventional AC power system by developing the distributed generations (DGs) technologies. The conversion processes between AC and DC electrical powers are more convenient by hybrid systems. In this paper, an energy management system (EMS) for a hybrid microgrid network is proposed due to the optimal utilization of...
متن کاملA Resilient and Energy-saving Incentive System for Resource Sharing in MANETs
Despite of all progress in terms of computational power, communication bandwidth, and feature richness, limited battery capacity is the major bottleneck for using the resources of mobile devices in innovative distributed applications. Incentives are required for motivating a user to spend energy on behalf of other users and it must be ensured that providing these incentives neither consumes muc...
متن کاملIncentive-Compatible Interdomain Routing with Linear Utilities
We revisit the problem of incentive-compatible interdomain routing, examining the quite realistic special case in which the utilities of autonomous systems (ASes) are linear functions of the traffic in the incident links and the traffic leaving each AS. We show that incentive-compatibility toward maximizing total welfare is achievable efficiently, and in the uncapacitated case, by an algorithm ...

Software realization of a large-scale Distributed Computing System (DCS) is achieved through the Componentbased Software Development (CBSD) approach. A DCS consists of many autonomous components that interact with each other to coordinate each system activity. The need for such coordination, along with requirements such as heterogeneity, scalability, security, and availability, considerably inc...
